Re-Thinking BOLI Strategies to Improve Your Current Portfolio

About the Session

In the current economic environment we face, many banks are experiencing challenges they never envisioned, and capital stress they need to relieve. However, banks that own bank-owned life insurance (BOLI) have a financial instrument that can help them weather the storm. In this webinar, Clark Consulting’s Independent Consultant Glenn A. Blackwood discusses how banks can take advantage of effective strategies to restructure their BOLI portfolio. Then Clark Consulting’s Independent Consultant Todd Andritsch discusses the value of BOLI with different risk-weighting options and the impact on ROE and credit quality.

Topics covered:

  • Retention of deferred tax assets in Tier 1 capital if the bank is in a projected loss position
  • Restructuring BOLI assets into Hybrid Separate Account (HSA) BOLI. HSA BOLI provides the option of a lower risk weighting (as compared to General Account BOLI with 100% risk weighting), as well as credit protection.
  • Financial results and ROE impact of different BOLI strategies based on risk based capital treatment.
